Relieving Pains by Physical Therapy

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I went to the doctor and he gave me muscle relaxants, painkillers, anti-inflammatory medication, and even steroidal shots. He gave me stretches, exercises, and tips on keeping my back from getting hurt again.

Regardless of what he gave me the discomfort would keep going. If you have never been to physical therapy centers, you won’t know what to expect.

Customarily your average physical care center is a mix of hi-tech and low-tech hands-on activities. Usually my physical care sessions would commence with about 10 to 15 minutes of traction. The machine would stretch out my back, taking stress of of my vertebrae. Since getting my back injury, I had lost lots of mobility. I was stiff and sore all over, in reality, and my legs felt puny. Doing stretches on my own had not done much for me, but working with the physical therapists at the center did wonders for my health. If you ever do go to a physical therapy center, you’ve got to ensure that it’s the right one. I have a mate who went to a physical treatment center where they were slipshod and reckless. You see, they might leap into some really tricky stretches before he was prepared. Their philosophy was the more the better, but that philosophy doesn’t work for the seriously wounded.

To the contrary, if your back is weakened and strained, you should start extremely gently with the stretches. Only that approach will ensure that you do not get hurt worse. Remember, if you don’t correctly treat a back problem, it can be with you for the remainder of your life.
